The first tee shot is an elevated tee shot that allows the golfer to challenge their game from the beginning. Golfers can choose to take a short cut on this reachable par 5 by playing over the two fairway bunkers and avoiding the native grasses and third fairway bunker on the left, leaving a demanding but achievable shot to the green over two greenside bunkers. The players that don’t want to risk anything on the first hole can play right of the two fairway bunkers at the first landing area to the wide portion of the fairway playing the hole as a 3 shot hole. The farther right the golfer plays the more elusive the approach shot to the green will be. The front right greenside bunker has a mound between the sand and the green surface hiding the green surface making the approach a little uneasy. Once on the green surface, it should be a fairly easy two putt and on to the next hole.

INSIDE thecourse/This may be the widest fairway on the entire course, however beware where the tee shot is placed. The fairway bunker is located essentially in the middle of the fairway, but it doesn’t appear that way. There is more room behind the fairway bunker if the golfer dares to play over the challenging hazard..it’s a long way. The farther right the tee shot the easier the approach will be, avoiding any greenside bunkers and allowing for the best view of the green surface. The large greenside bunker on the left side of the green is not as close to the green surface as it appears with the native grasses and mounding hiding over 50% of the green if you are on the left half of the fairway.

Don’t let the large fairway bunkers on the left side of the hole scare you…swing away on this long downhill par 4. The closer the golfer plays to the fairway bunkers on the left the better the angle into the green avoiding the deep green side bunkers on the right side of the putting surface.

This is an interesting short par 5, it could be considered a par 4 ½. From the tee, golfers have a couple of fairly obvious choices to make and one fairly unobvious choice. The safest play is to aim right of the five fairway bunkers to a wide fairway leaving a challenging approach if going for the green in two is the goal. If not, then just hit a mid iron to the fairway on the other side of the pond and a wedge into the green. If the golfer plays to over the front 3 fairway bunkers and between the large bunker in the middle of the fairway and pond, only 170-190 yards are left to the green over the deepest bunker on the entire course directly in front of the green. However, if that tee shot is mis-hit either short, left or right and the tee shot is left in one of the 5 bunkers the next shot will be interesting playing out of a fairway bunker, over a pond, to a narrow fairway…or is the play safe up the fairway, avoiding the pond and leaving a long approach over a deep bunker for the third shot? This hole is definitely an opportunity for a birdie of a BIG number. The green surface is itself fairly subtle don’t miss the green because a ravine is waiting to grab your ball either left or right.

This is the longest par 3 on the course that is fairly straight forward. The bunker in front of the green is intimidating to look at but is not the difficult to play out of. Just don’t miss to the right of this green…it drops off severely into native grasses and getting up and down from the deep native grasses is almost impossible.

Another fairly straight forward golf hole, but the tee shot is a little uneasy because the ground slopes to the left and the hole doglegs to the right. Just aim to the right of the fairway bunker, hit the fairway and all that is left is a shorter iron to hit the green on this shorter par 4. Don’t miss the green left because a bunker or native grasses will make getting up and down very difficult, especially when you realize all the room to miss to the right of the green.

This is the shortest par 3 on the course and is deceiving from the middle and rear tees. From the tee, the golfer is faced with a shot that plays up and over a slight ridge making the hole look slightly shorter that it actually is. Also, golfers can’t see a greenside bunker protecting the right portion of the green. A missed tee shot to the right of the green is likely to either be in the aforementioned bunker or bound of the steep slope right of the green and out of bounds. For such a simple looking hole, a par is not always an easy score.

After playing the shortest hole on the course, this hole is one of the longest par 4’s on the course. With out of bounds on the right and bunkers/native grasses on the left, make sure your tee shot ends up down the middle of the fairway. From the landing area the remaining approach shot is severely up hill and very narrow to a punchbowl style green complex with a difficult pulling surface. Par is a great score on the difficult par 4.

This is the shortest par 4 on the entire course and an interesting hole. From the tee, golfers have three different options. The first option is to lay up short of the fairway bunkers on the right portion of the fairway at the bottom of the hill. This would leave a blind approach shot over two very deep green side bunkers in front of the fairly simple green surface. The second option is to play left of the pines in the middle of the fairway and over the native ridge to the upper narrow fairway. This tee shot will leave the easiest approach to the green with a clear view of the putting surface and no hazards between you and the pin. The last option is to swing away…it is feasible to reach this short par 4 from the tee leaving a rare chance at an eagle putt.

The rear two tees have not been constructed yet. They will be built when the Clubhouse construction is near completion. From the future two tees and existing tees, the shot appears to be wider than it really is. While there is plenty of room to the left at the landing area, the hole continued to narrow as you get closer to the green. A tee shot played too far left might not be able to play directly toward the green. Aiming at the first fairway bunker on the left allows for the safest tee shot, but a riskier tee shot directed at the next fairway bunker, into a very narrow section of the fairway, shortens the uphill approach considerably. The green complex is located at the base of a 40 foot high section of rim-rock. The entire hole was designed around the location of this dramatic green setting.

This is one of the most natural golf holes on the entire course. We basically “found” this hole in place and built a few tees, a green and bunkers in the existing native grade. The tees were located on a hillside to take advantage of the views of Devils Tower off to the right and the green setting a natural fit among the large Ponderosa Pines.

This par 3 was identified immediately as part of the initial routing the new 9 holes. Minimal construction was needed to build this dramatic hole over the rim-rock canyon. The tees were located as close as possible to the edge of the canyon to provide the most dramatic views. The bunkers were built to create an optical illusion, making the look slightly shorter. The green is probably the most challenging surface on the back 9. The green is contoured to funnel balls back onto the putting surface but golfers should make sure they are on the correct level to have a chance at a 2-putt par.

From the tee this hole looks fairly standard, but experience will soon teach the importance of the location of your tee shot. If a golfer wants to try and play for this green in two shots, the tee shot must be on the right half of this very wide fairway. From the right side of the first landing area, a slot has been opened up in front of the green to allow the golfer to see and play toward the green in two if you dare hit over the deep canyon. The more traditional play is to steer left of the canyon and the large Pine trees to the inviting large second landing area. This green complex has the smallest putting surface on the entire course and probably offers the best views too.

We designed this tee shot to offer the golfer many different options to consider depending on the risk he/she is willing to take. If the golfer aims down the right portion of the fairway, by far the easiest play, the remaining approach shot is to a semi blind green complex and still a very long ways away. The farther the golfer aims left of the tees the more the fairway bunkers and native grass come into play but it also offers the shortest route to the green and the best view of the green complex. The bunker that appears to be on the front right of the green was purposefully designed to be an optical illusion. This bunker is actually 30 yards from the center of the green. Other than the short right bunker, there really is little danger around the green…just subtle slopes mowed at fairway height on all sides.

Swing away up and over the hill to this very wide but blind tee shot. The only trouble lurking is out of bounds to the far right. Just like on hole #13, on hole #15 the golfer has a decision to make on the second shot. The safest play is straight down the hill laying it up short and left of the pond between holes 15 and 16. However, this conservative play will yield an approach short over water, sand and into the narrowest portion of the green. The longer and farther left the golfer plays on the second shot the easier the approach angle is to this long and narrow green.

This medium length par 3 was routed to blend in with the beautiful meadow behind the green and the historic cabin adjacent to the green complex. The tees have been split with two different angles to play this hole. The rear tees are the most difficult with a long shot over water and sand to a relatively large and gentle green. The forward tees are situated along the side of the pond with a much shorter shot and no forced carry over a hazard.

This hole will probably be one of the most difficult holes on the entire course if not in the State of Wyoming. This is the longest par 4 on the back 9 and probably the narrowest, with large Pine trees bordering both sides of the fairway and deep canyons along the right and left. Due to the difficulty of the tee shot from the back tees, we constructed and additional tee complex at a completely different angle for the mid to higher handicapper. The green is surrounded by large pine trees and falls off in all directions, just like the fairway. This is the only hole on the course without any sand bunkers…it doesn’t need an additional hazards. The actual putting surface is huge with a large slope separating the front and rear halves of the green.

This hole measures much longer on the scorecard than it will actually play. The tee shot has such an extreme elevation change it is like hitting a ball off of a 15 story building. Golfers should have a lot of fun watching the ball soar in the air down 150 feet to the trouble free, receptive landing area. The view of the rim rock surrounding this hole is spectacular and if you look carefully off of the rear tee you will see the green complex for hole #10 below. A small pond protects the front of the green protecting the short iron approach you likely will be faced with.
